The lifestyle of the artist…and second person mantras.

Topics We’ll Explore

Here’s what’s coming up.

“I am not concerned with what you make, I am concerned with how you think.”

Art, rightfully so, is focused on the visual experience. Centuries of art makers, whether in primitive societies or modern cultural contexts, have created things for us to look at. Most online art education resources focus on what the artist is making. To set this site’s offerings apart, it also focuses on what you are thinking.

The videos in this series includes lessons and lectures by H. Frank, who holds a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Each one strives not only to show techniques and share knowledge, but to encourage critical thinking. It is this critical thinking that allows artists to not only be creators of beauty, but problem solvers as well as pioneers who push the envelope of perception and understanding.

The videos and website show one example of the journey of an artist, and building skills in art making.

Because it’s important to take your work seriously, but not take yourself seriously, there’s a dash of self-effacing comedy.
